1. Don’t stop cleaning the court 

If you have a basketball court, the least you want on it is the dust and debris that collect there. These pollutants are not only harmful to your health but also damage the basketball court.

An outdoor basketball court is exposed to weather elements like rocks, dirt, debris, leaves, and twigs dropping from nearby trees. For asphalt basketball floors, the asphalt can soften in hot weather, and this causes the debris to stick on the paving, making it uneven. You can avoid this by sweeping the basketball court regularly with some brisk brush.

The basketball court can also gather moss and accumulate moisture if it is located under some shade. Scrub the basketball paving with bleach to kill all the moss. You can also hose the court area with water downwards.

2. Don’t turn the court into a parking 

The worst mistake you can make is turning your basketball pitch into a parking lot. It may resemble a driveway when you have an asphalt court, and most motorists will be tempted to park there. Parking on the basketball court weakens the asphalt and can make it wear down quickly. Vehicles parked on the court will leave some oil residue and skid marks, which are not easy to remove.

The vehicles will also cause some cracking on the court, making your basketball court unappealing. You won’t enjoy playing basketball on a cracked court anymore. You should use the court for playing basketball only and nothing else.

3. Paint the court and seal it 

If you want your basketball court to keep glittering all year round, you should paint and seal it if you can. Hardwood and asphalt both wear out and having them on your court doesn’t mean you won’t spend on repairs.

You can keep your basketball court functioning for long by protecting the surface with some sealants. Sealcoat the court and make your court stand out from the rest in the neighborhood.

By painting and sealing the court, you stop it from cracking and rainwater penetrating and cracking the pavement. Paint the baselines, sidelines, throw lines, and center circles to mark them. You should get some quality sealer to lock the paint.

4. Resurface the court 

If your basketball court has served you for long, you should plan to resurface it and give it a new look. Resurfacing is also important if the basketball is in very bad condition. Resurfacing the basketball court is the best way of regaining the quality, performance, and safety characteristics of the court of the court. Make it part of your annual plan to resurface your basketball court and give it a new look.
